[Highly rated reviewer]this film is superb. The Mummy has action, love, adventure, horror and comedy all rolled into one excitingly, nail biting, edge of the chair movie. It also has a kind of exotic magical style and feel, about it too.
In ancient Egypt, one priest called Imohotep, had the nerve to fall in love with the Pharaoh's mistress called Anck Su Namun.
after being found out, Anck Su Namun kills herself, and imohotep after killing the Pharoah called Seti, suffers the Hom-Dai, the most feared curse of all. he is mummified alive, and is cursed , to become one of the undead, and to suffer for all time. Unless of course, if someone releases him from his prison, then he is free.
we then move forward to the 1920's, where a group of treasure hunters, and a group of archeologists, set out to find the ancient city of Hamunaptra.
adventurer, and ex. foreign legion soldier, Rick leads Egyptologist Evelyn, and her brother Jonathan to the mysterious Hamunaptra. Rick is a bit of an 'indiana Jones ' type character.
Benny, Rick's fellow foreign legion colleague, is leading the group of American treasure hunters, and another Egyptologist, who thinks that he is better than Evelyn, because she is only a woman.
Benny previously did the dirty on Rick.
Unfortunately, they and the rivalling group of careless American adventurers, free Imhotep's mummy from his eternal prison, thus accidently awakening the ancient evil.
they find themselves in a race against time, to save their own skins, and the world in general.
The special effects in this film are excellent.
While Jonathan is keen, on finding the legendary Egyptian treasures, Evelyn wants to search for the Book of the Living which is made of gold. this book would clarify a lot in historical knowledge, about the ancient Egyptians.
Imhotep wants to bring Ankh su namun back to life by using Evelyn's body, but he also wants to rid the world, of the disbelieving crowd of democracy supporters, to be able to enforce his tyrannical dictatorship.
well worth renting out.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideThis movie is action packed and fast paced.
It has one of my favourite film scenes in it. When Benny first encounters 'The Mummy', he has nowhere to run or hide, so holds up various religious icons one at a time, saying prayers in various languages until he finds one the Mummy responds to. Its funny just watching him scrabble around for various chains around his neck and the whole notion of having all these religious symbols on one person.
There are some other great one liners in the movie too, such as 'No harm ever came from reading a book'.
It also has the stereotypical British person in it, who in this case is an old RAF pilot. He's unhappy as the rest of his squadron died in a blaze of glory and he's still alive and getting old. There's a great scene where he's just out on the sand dunes listening to gramophone record under the shade of a parasol. O'Connell tries to persuade him to help them and Winston says 'Is it dangerous?' to which O'Connell replies 'Well, you probably won't live through it' and in the stereotypical posh British accent Winston says 'By Jove, do you really think so? ', followed by Jonathan chips in 'Well, everybody else we've bumped into has died. Why not you?'
