The Muse

Albert Brooks is Steven Phillips, a veteran screenwriter of 17 films who is told he has lost his edge. A fellow writer with a string of successes under his belt (Jeff Bridges) refers Phillips to Sarah (Sharon Stone), a professional muse (see Greek mythology). In exchange for the royal treatment and a showering of expensive gifts, she will grace writers with her presence, which seems to magically spark profitable ideas from the client's mind. Is her power real or is it all in her clients' heads

American satirist Albert Brooks casts his waspish eye over the film business, writing, directing and starring in this tale of a screenwriter who has lost his touch. Though he is sceptical when successful writer chum Jeff Bridges claims to be inspired by a real-life muse, Brooks nonetheless woos the temperamental Sarah (Sharon Stone), only to find her turning his life with wife Andie MacDowell upside down. Despite Brooks's ever-present cynicism about life, his film is full of lovely, gentle humour, while film fans will love the cameos from Stone's other “clients”, among them James Cameron, Rob Reiner and Martin Scorsese.

    News about ther Muse

A movie that's much better than it's rating of 3. It was recommended to me by my brother as a very pleasant movie with lots of laughs.

He also said not to be put off by Sharon Stone and that Jeff Bridges, always excellent, did not have a major part to play. The success of the movie hangs on Albert Brooks' performance as, unbelievably, a Hollywood scriptwriter fallen on difficult times who, in desperation, turns to Stone's Muse for inspiration. Lots of in-jokes and good humour follows. Well worth the effort. Deserves a 5 in my opinion.
