Wonderful musical
By a customer from Birmingham, England , 14 May 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
Great performance by Robert Preston (where is he now?) Unforgetable tune and lyrics of 76 Trombones - it is still going around in my head.- Was this review helpful to you?

(11)A little dull
By a customer from East Grinstead , 01 Apr 2010I watched this film to see Robert Preston and was not disappointed in him, but otherwise it was not inspiring. I felt the musical did not have that vital spark.- Was this review helpful to you?

Somewhat lacking
By RJNeb2 (934 reviews) from London , 15 Sep 2009A huge success on Broadway as some kind of sentimental tribute to small town America, this musical makes a bumpy transition to the screen. While Robert Preston earns his bucks as the conman setting out to seduce the town of River City and its prim librarian in particular, director Morton da Costa mounts a stiff and stagey production. He might have steered it successfully in the theatre but he has little feel on how to make it palatable for movie audiences. Of the many, rather complicated tunes, '76 Trombones' is easily the stand-out.- Was this review helpful to you?

we've got trouble
By a customer from Uxbridge , 11 Aug 2009I fell asleep. I know the songs so well, but this time found the thin story line missable and the DVD gave me a good opportuntiy to fall asleep.- So much for nostalgia.- Was this review helpful to you?

poor old musical
By tomb (36 reviews) from Lowestoft , 20 May 2009An old style musical. Unfortunately its not a good one. The music is bad and the lyrics are laughable. Quite frankly, I don't know how anyone had the gall to make a movie with such poor music. The only good song was '76 Trombones', and even that was lacking in execution.- Was this review helpful to you?
