Most helpful review
Don't waste your time
By a customer from edinburgh , 14 Sep 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Not worth watching. I thought it might be of similar quality as the Count of monte christo that was recently made but this is really dull. Your better with the earlier musketeer films with Oliver Reid in them.- Was this review helpful to you?

(11)15 minutes I'll never get back
By TroyP (2 reviews) from Derry , 17 Nov 2010This was the only film I ever walked out of a Cinema on. I had to leave after 15 minutes for fear of this film taking more time from my life. Trying to make the most of the 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' phenomenon, this film fell woefully short. an embarrassment to everyone involved.- Was this review helpful to you?

Under rated action film
By a customer from Cardiff, Wales , 02 Dec 2005I don't know why this film doesn't get better reviews. It's true that the lead actor is wooden and his good looks are not shown to good effect but the action scenes are great. If you like action films with a slight twist (as this is set in 17th century France) then you should like this film.- Was this review helpful to you?

I never thought I'd say this but...
By MsVespertine (6 reviews) from Stockport , 10 Mar 2005...there is such a thing as a bad musketeer film. In fact, a musketeer film so bad as to make me shudder to recall watching it. From the moment the father calls his son by the name 'D'artagnan' (which, for goodness sake, is not even a surname, but a location defined nickname, if we want to be really picky) I knew it was all going to be downhill.
The acting is almost acceptable, but the better actors are sidelined in underused roles, and the main cast are simply not up to the task of making the best of the mediocre script. The camera work is bland to poor, especially in the fight scenes where it is so vital. and as for the fight scenes themselves... surely this is where the film should be at least watchable? But no. Not even close. These are badly shot, badly choreographed, and so over the top, so obviously wired that they range from unfeasible to ridiculous to simply unwatchable.
And if you think that's because modern, martial arts influenced stunt work can't work in a period setting, then go and watch 'The Brotherhood of the Wolf' ('Le Pacte des Loups') by Christophe Gans. Please. Use it to wipe this horrible disappointment from your mind.
Or watch any other musketeer film. Even Dogtanian.- Was this review helpful to you?
