    [Highly rated reviewer]

Simon Callow gives a magnificent, often moving performance -- indeed many magnificent moving performances in this living literary biography of Dickens life and work. Whether you are familiar or not with the works of Dickens, Callow's portrayals and evocations of Dickens life and his catalogue of characters is 90 minutes of your life well spent.

I didn't enjoy this, unfortunately. Simon Callow is way too excitable for my liking, so anything I may have learned of interest about Dickens was overshadowed by the dramatic exuberance of the narration. Not good.

Simon Callow's performance was adequate... I was sadly disappointed... it seemed pedestrian in parts. But overall worth a look. But don't expect to be riveted.
