The entire fourth series featuring the corrupt political manoeuvrings of Alan B'Stard MP (Rik Mayall), the morally challenged Tory MP. 'Back from the Mort' sees the return of B'stard who was last seen in series three abandoned in Siberia - dumped there by his estranged wife Sarah (Marsha Fitzalan). Back in Britain he vows a comeback and is soon elected Member of the European Parliament for the constituency of Obersaxony in Germany. In 'H*A*S*H' Alan and Sir Greville decide to take advantage of the European 'legalise cannabis' campaign and for a while all seems to be going well. 'Speaking In Tongues' sees Alan's old sidekick Piers Fletcher-Dervish ennobled to the role of Brussels Commissioner for Internal Relations but soon discovers that life in Brussels is full of mishaps. Alan's recommendation for a scheme to employ electronic translation devices soon lands Piers in hot water. In 'Heil and Farewell' Alan B'Stard unwittingly becomes a new figure-head for Neo-Nazi's when he attempts to reach-out to them and bring them into Brussel's political life. 'A Bigger Splash' sees the war-stricken Yugoslavs drawn to Alan's unique political skills. He engineers a solution for the country but it's a cover for making money as usual. Finally 'The Irresistible Rise of Alan B'Stard' sees the intrepid politico taking on absolutely everyone with his scheme for uncovering the untaxed money in the Channel Islands, a plan that might just land him the big job in Number 10 Downing Street. Whilst in the one-off 'Who Shot Alan B'Stard' (1990) conniving MP B'Stard returns, to miraculously survive a staged assassination attempt. However, when his wife Sarah decides to spill the beans to an Australian journalist about just how corrupt Alan really is, the Tory terror begins to panic, turning to sycophantic lackey Piers Fletcher-Dervish (Michael Troughton) for help. Remarkably, the brainless Piers actually manages to get B'Stard out of trouble, but his plan does have certain unforseen consequences.

B'stard not quite the B'stard

Rented this as I was out of the country for original TV transmission of the 4th series. Sorry Alan but you lost your touch in this one. Dont know if it's because it was set in the EU,(or maybe just passage of time) but it just didn't even raise a smile. Just looking forward to seeing series 1-3 again.
