  • Very Good Movie!

Very good movie! Much more sophisticated and nuanced than you might think from the cover art. It's not a 'gay movie' at all, in fact, in the niche sense; it simply has a couple gay characters in it. It's a group friends movie (St. Elmo's Fire, The Big Chill, Diner, etc.) - which is a subgenre I enjoy - and what's nice about THE NEW TWENTY in terms of that is the ending. Won't give it away - just will say that it's not the usual cringe-worthy happily-ever-after thing - 'we'll all be friends forever' - but something much smarter and more complex. And there's actually a sense of SOCIAL REALITY in the movie that's believable and true. Also really enjoyed depiction of gay and straight male friends that was simply presented as: NOT A BIG DEAL. Like it is in life. ALL the acting is really excellent. I don't know these actors except the guy from the Hal Hartley movies (Bill Sage) - but they all do a great job. Lots of subtle, quiet moments where you really get a feel for the characters and their inner lives. And all-in-all there's a nice pace to it also. It has a dynamic, entertaining feel. A very good American indie that's much smarter and more stylish than the usual!

Bit boring and pointless...pretty directionless don't bother. Hardly a gay film and not even sexy to compensate for bad storyline

  • Not gay but throughly absorbing

I have to agree that this film has been mis-classified - it is hardly 'gay interest'. However, I am grateful I found it and got thoroughly absorbed by it. The theme is unashamedly friendship and there are some moving moments between this group of ex-college friends. Only one of them, Tony, moves on at the end of the film and so really it is his story that provides the narrative but you wouldn't know by the chaotic, realistic script and filmmaking. I would like to see the sequel.

Despite some of the negative views, I thought this was a good film, interesting characters, well acted. A bit too much swearing where it was not needed, but well worth a viewing.

Dull as ditchwater from beginning to end. You keep waiting for something to happen that you haven't already predicted. Out of date by about 20 years as regards attitudes to HIV amongst the Gay community. Apart from alpha-male Andrew's body there is very little to keep one interested. To be charitable one could say that it deals well with the questions and problems confronted by the 30 somethings in the same vein as 'Friends'. A whole lot of nothing really.

Pretty bollox really. The story is flat and uninteresting. Characters are dry and forced.. If you enjoy this you are a little simple.
