Only the deliciously demented imagination of Batman/Ed Wood director Tim Burton could have come up with such a dark vision of the holiday season. Producing here, Burton called on the services of innovative animation director Henry Selick and composer Danny Elfman (a regular Burton collaborator, who wrote the ten surreal songs and lends his singing voice to the lead character) for this wonderfully weird fable. Packed with scary spooks, gags and dazzling décor. it enchants with every busy frame as spindly Jack Skellington, the mastermind behind Halloween, hijacks Christmas out of boredom, becoming a frightening Santa delivering nasty surprises instead of presents to terrified children. The film's affectionate trashing of Christmas traditions is conceptually cunning and clever enough to please every generation, making it an unmissable treat that's destined to become as great a yuletide favourite as The Wizard of Oz.

"...Delectably ghoulish....A major step forward for both stop-motion animation [and for Burton]..."
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is my favourite film. Considering it was made over 10 years ago now the animation is still outstanding. The story tells of Jack The Pumpkin King of Halloween Town. Every year the residents of Halloween Town, which includes everything from vampires to witches to little mummy boys, come up with plans for Halloween and how to scare everyone in the real world. But Jack is tired of the same old holiday and longs for something else. At night as he walks through the forest he comes across a gathering of trees with differnet doors representing the different holidays, but the one he is drawn to the most is that of Christmas Town. Jack is amazed by the idea of Christmas and soons decides that all his fellow residents of Halloween Town should stop Halloween this year and make Christmas!. Aided by all his friends Jack's dream starts to become reality but one resident, Sally (who is a ragdoll made by the mad scientist Dr Finklestein) isnt so sure. She has a secret love for Jack that knowbody knows. She doubts Jack's idea of Christmas is going to go according to plan but he doesnt listen and so starts The Nightmare Before Christmas. Filled with brilliant songs composed by the excellent Danny Elfman, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is a ghoulish tale for all the family.
very boring fell asleep half way through!
too much singing!
i heard it was a good film but we didnt enjoy it at all!
very dissappointing!
What an absolutely amazing film!! I ordered it for a four-year-old girl and wanted to check if it would be suitable first (probably not!)
I couldnt turn it off. Everything about this film, but particularly the animation, is fantastic.
I would even recommend watching The making of and the two first Tim Burton films that are included on the DVD.
This was truly dissapointing unamusing irrelevant and a total waste of time to watch!
This has to be one of the greatest animated achievements of all time.
The overwhelming visual style completely whips you into Burtons quirky world, and keeps you entertained throughout. I'm a huge fan of animation loving Disneys, Anime and CGI, but watching real models come alive, always makes my jaw drop ('Wallace and Gromit' movie also excellent in this account).
The imaginative story is a perfect compliment to the style, accompanied by a selection of 'soundtrack purchase worthy' songs, which round this brilliant film off nicley.

You really have to like musicals to like this. It is no doubt a great technical achievement in terms of animation but it's hard to see who it's aimed at. Adults who like musical animation might like it but my kids thought it was boring and didn't even finish watching it.
This film looks fantastic, the sets the puppets and anamation- brilliant (Thanks to Tim Burton). Shame the plot is very weak, you are left feeling very bored after about 1/2 hour.

absolutely brilliant animation from director tim burton. weird and wonderful christmas tale, a must see film for kids and adults
we stayed in on a saturday night & we were looking forward to this film, mainly based on the reviews.this one was deinitely in the catagory of straight to the re-cycle bin.We (wife & i)found it very uncomfortable to watch. It wasnt enjoyable for us at all.
I couldnt recommend it to anyone.A very strange film.
Even though i didn't finish watching it,one does notice the Burton touch right off the start of the film.
I am sure the movie is great but i've never been a fan of too much melodies in animation.
Honestly i still feel guilty for not finishing watch it,so that must count for something.(?)
Brilliant, dark animation from Tim Burton - similar in a way to Edward Scissorhands ( possibly not suitable for nervous children!). The music and songs are fantastic.
