Sweeping romance directed by Nick Cassavetes, set in a small coastal town in the American South - partly in the 1940s, and partly in the present day. In the present day scenes, an elderly man (James Garner) reads from a faded notebook to an old woman (Gena Rowlands) whom he regularly visits at her nursing home. As he reads, a passionate love story unfolds about a young couple - Noah Calhoun and Allie Hamilton (played in flashback scenes by Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) - whose fledgling love affair was abruptly ended by circumstances and the sudden outbreak of World War 2. But although fate drives the young couple apart, they continue to be haunted by memories of their affair, and when Noah returns from the war seven years later, he realises that he cannot forget the promises they made to one other - despite the fact that Allie is engaged to be married to another man.

30 Year old bloke who loves this film

I am an action film lover, who secretly admits to loving this film, well directed and acted it makes it the ideal film for Sunday afternoons or for that romantic evening with your partner. I know that he will enjoy it too, but never admit it, WATCH and you will enjoy whether by yourself or with that someone special.

Beautiful ....

I don't really enjoy watching films more than once as a rule, but this is one of those few exceptions. I love the now and past pieces in this film. You don't have to love history to be able to immerse yourself into this wonderful piece of cinema, but the attention to detail and the story are exceptional, let alone the wonderful story itself. Sit back, relax and let yourself drift off into the story, another time and beautiful place, you won't regret it.

Touching and emotional. Kept me riveted throughout. Poignant ending which will create a lasting impression on even the most hard hearted folk. A true love story.

Wow, the first love film I have ever watched, it was amazing. loved it and soooo touching, had me and my partner is floods of tears. Amazing.

Perfect Love Story

This film is timeless; perfect with girlfriends, alone or with a partner. Men and women alike couldn't resist this gem of a love story. I've seen it twice and want to buy it.
