Lacking the cool elegance of Ernst Lubitsch's Trouble in Paradise, this is still a pleasingly deft comedy of crooked manners. As the Americans who live on their wits and other people's money, Andie MacDowell and John Malkovich make an unexpectedly good team, with their on-screen limitations actually contributing to the credibility of their characters. Indeed, the insurance scam involving a Henry Moore sculpture rather gets in the way of their bantering, as it shifts the focus on to the deaf-mute maid who has purloined it. Smoothly directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, this may not be a masterpiece, but it has undeniable curio value.

not terrible but you don't gain any great satisfaction from it. A bit odd.

I love john Malkovich and Andy McDowell is jusy great in groudhog day. Unfortunately good actors can rarely turn a bad script into a good one. The pair start off as horrible (apparently) rich snobs who then become poor. This is when you are supposed to start liking them and feeling sorry for their situation-i really didn't. You need to feel some affinity for the characters but I despised them both. typical 90's look to the film which you can get past when a film is good, somthing this one isn't. Andy McDowell's accent is the only good thing about this film.
