Dumb Americanization of British comedy genius.
By mephistopheles (41 reviews) from Cheshire , 16 Oct 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
Being a huge fan of the Ricky Gervais original,I honestly approached this with an open mind.
Suffice to say:
THIS DUMB,UN-FUNNY & UTTERLY POINTLESS REMAKE IS SO GLARINGLY INFERIOR TO THE ENGLISH ORIGINAL IN EVERY IMAGINABLE WAY THAT I'M AT-A-TOTAL-LOSS AS TO WHY EVEN MR GERVAIS ALLOWED HIS NAME TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DRIVEL.to wit: It's horrendous. Ye I have forewarned thee!- Was this review helpful to you?

(74)Stands up on it's own
By a customer , 12 Mar 2013Get past the first few episodes and you'll realise that this show stands up by itself. It's in a slightly different vein than the UK version and it really is worth giving the actors a break as they settle in to the roles.- Was this review helpful to you?

Just doesn't work somehow
By Exitpursuedbyabear (19 reviews) , 09 Dec 2012Partially this is because of Steve Carrell's really daft performance, running round like some hyperactive chipmunk. Partially because English humour just doesn't translate that well. Personally I'd stick with the UK version and give thanks that you get a full 30 minutes, rather than 22 minutes with 9 minutes cut from each episode to accommodate adverts.- Was this review helpful to you?

Ignore ep 1.
By Rastatimelord (15 reviews) from Earth , 29 Mar 2012If you try to just get thru episode 1, which is a heavily americanized verion of the Office U. K. version, and from ep 2 onwards try to dismiss the fact that these characters are the same characters we love from the U. K version with different names, and imagine them as new characters in there own right; then this is a really funny U. S sitcom. Some brilliant cringe-making moments and really well thought out scenarios. Shame about the lack of music over the end credits tho.- Was this review helpful to you?

Slow start, got better
By gigglanecraig (15 reviews) from Bury, Lancashire , 22 Mar 2011The first episode was virtually a carbon copy of the UK version of the show and, as such, was disappointing. As the series progressed and the US version took on its own life and own plot lines, the overall quality increased. Steve Carell is the perfect choice to play the American take on the David Brent character, ably backed up by the other main characters.
I'm looking forward to the second series arriving on my doormat as I'm sure this show will improve the further it departs from its UK origin.- Was this review helpful to you?

oh dear
By Em1981 (133 reviews) from London , 16 Mar 2011I like steve generally.
this is almost word for word the same as the british office. i didnt realise it was the same script i thought it was the same idea was taken and adapted to an american office. The script just doesnt work in an american office. This would have been such a great series with an american script, american office banter would be somewhat different from british. Its a shame, i dont get why they just didnt come up with a brand new storyline doco type office idea for an american work place.
There was never any way this was going to work, just watch the british one, same script done better!!!! bizzare its awful as it is.- Was this review helpful to you?
