Frenchman Abel Tiffauges likes children, and wants to protect them against grown-ups. Falsely suspected as a child molester, he is recruited as a soldier in the Second World War, but soon is captured and held as a prisoner of war. After serving in Goering's hunting lodge, he becomes the dogsbody in Kaltenborn Castle, an elite training camp for German boys.
