Based on the novel by JB Priestley, The old dark house is a sinister mansion owned by the family Femm. Eccentric and seriously spooky with Boris Karloff as Morgan, the brutish butler! Lots of great lines, chills and some superb dry humour. film buffs delight!

This brought back some fun memories from about 30ish years ago when i would be out on a saturday night in my local village working mens club, bopping the night away with my friends to a live band. At the end of the night, i had a mile to walk home with my dad who'd been playing snooker in the other bar. Once we got home, on would go the tv so we could watch that weeks Boris Karloff film. Every saturday night!! Loved it!!

A classicof 30's british film making, The Femm family are great fun to watch. Karloff shows off his horror talents, Laughton is brill as the loud brash northern businessman.

One of my favourite horror films from the 1930s. A great combination of creepy atmosphere and dry humour. The pace might be a bit slow for some, with there not being much in the way of action until the last third; and there being a fairly thin plot. But other than that, I can't really find fault in it. Always try and watch this one leading up to halloween, and it never fails to disappoint. :)

  • Longest thunder storm in history!

Well, it killed an afternoon at least.

That was the longest thunder storm in history!

Tiny plot, saved by being filmed in black and white. Not that there was a choice back then. Not bad for as old as it is. I don't think I would reccomend it.

Loved the house. Felt sorry for Morgan.
