A staid American ambassador (Gregory Peck) and his wife (Lee Remick) are heartbroken when their child is stillborn, but their heartbreak is only beginning when they adopt an orphan. This big-budget horror blockbuster is given class by a distinguished cast (Gregory Peck battling the Antichrist? Whatever next!) and an unsettling atmosphere created by director Richard Donner. Cleverly borrowing a prophecy from the Book of Revelation about Armageddon, scriptwriter David Seltzer has fashioned a supernatural terror tale of religious epic proportions and hit the fright franchise jackpot with three sequels to date. Yet this is still the best episode because it carries its suspenseful premise with such uneasiness. And David Warner's grisly beheading is only one of several remarkably imaginative ghastly deaths.
Commercially successful variation on The Exorcist, quite professionally assembled and more enjoyable as entertainment than its predecessor.
Although this tale of a satanic child was as successful at the box-office as The Exorcist, there's not a drop of green... read more on Time Out
One of the most deeply scary films ever - not only the cinematography but convincing performances all round make for a truly chilling atmosphere and a feeling that somethings...just not quite right.
Excellent film, a true classic, one that will go down among the best - and scariest - films.
9/10. Hauntingly excellent.
I had seen this movie before about 10 years ago but could not really remember any of it so decided to rent it again.
Being a fan of horror films and in particular the older classics of the 70s/80s horrors this lived up to expectations. Its a creepy film with great acting from Gregory Peck and the young boy who plays Damien combined with a good musical score and it does make you feel uncomfortable at times.
I do feel however that it lacks the shock element you feel when you watch The Exorcist and for this reason i only give it 4 and not 5 stars.
will certainly rent part 2 to see what happens though.
damien damien damien...what a little evil kid, but how cute! the cutest antichrist i've ever seen. Anyway, the omen is a fantastic movie, a classic, a cult, a must see for a true horror fan. it's creepy, scary, it's got great musics and awesome actors, the deaths are wicked, everything is great for such an old movie. if you love horror movies RENT IT! im a hardcore horror fan and I rarely get disturbed by a movie, but this one gave me nightmares, which im thankfull about, cause i was wondering if there still was something capable of giving me nightmares...well...a big thanks to ' the omen' for showing me there is!!! (the reasons why i was giving it 4 stars are spoilers so i won't mention them)
when i first saw this film years ago on tv it scared me half to death. even after all this time even though the shocks are not surprising anymore the underlying menace is still there a true classic the best of the omen films in my opinion and a must have in any dvd collection 10/10

This is one of my favourite films of all time and the sequels!
How chilling can horror children be...much more frightening than when he matures I think.
This is a classic - rent it today!
Excellent movie and the bonus are very useful as well to understand how they shot 'The Omen' ; this is definitely a must-see film !!!
As the title suggests, I had forgotten just how good this film is. From start to finish, you are on the edge of your seat. Gregory Peck and Lee Remmick make the perfect couple, and little Damien is brilliant. As the story unfolds, we get closer to the truth of what damien represents, and you can almost touch salvation, only to be beaten back by the forces of evil at the end. Of course, there are the next two in the triology to come, but this is an extremely excellent film, and well worth a night in front of the telly with the lights off. Happy viewing.
This is the best film out of the Omen trilogy. It is so much better than the remake. Well paced & directed, with excellent acting from Gregory Peck & every one else, even though this was not a typical film for him. Still holds up well today even over other films of the genre with lashings of CGI. Turn out the lights & get the popcorn out! Enjoy!
I watched this film years ago when I was just a kid, but it's not lost any of its appeal. You would not say that it was 30 years old. The music adds to the atmosphere of the film, haunting gothic singing, and all of the acting is first class compared to some movies that I have seen from the 70's.
Definitley a must to anyone who likes the old horrors, although do not expect lots of blood and guts, as it's not that type of horror. V GOOD.

I am completely suprised how such a simple story could be executed so well. It does have many chilling moments, and reminds the viewer of 'The Exorcist'; but I think it is a bit more than a horror story. Some explanation is lacking, and tends to go on a bit, but other than that the film is sound. Stellar performances by all the cast. The music is orchestrated well. Pure psychological thriller, suspense and mystery - all in one! Well worth checking out.
