THE ONE is based on the futuristic premise that there is more than one universe: there are many parallel universes, each of which contain a slightly different version of every person who has ever lived. Yulaw (Jet Li) is a rogue agent from the Multiverse Bureau of Intelligence who has learned that, by traveling from one parallel universe to another and killing the alternate versions of himself, he gains his counterparts' strength, speed and intelligence. After killing one hundred and 23 parallel versions of himself, Yulaw has gained almost unstoppable power--and there is only one version of himself left, Gabriel Law (Jet Li), a Los Angeles cop. Yulaw travels to the universe that houses his nemesis, followed by a pair of agents intent on stopping him from killing Gabe and either gaining near-godlike powers, or destroying the fabric of all existence. Gabe is confused to find himself being hunted and shot at by himself, but with the help of his wife T.K. (Carla Gugino) and the Multiverse cops (Delroy Lindo and Jason Statham), Gabe engages Yulaw in a series of spectacular fights to become the One. Glen Morgan and James Wong, creators of FINAL DESTINATION and several memorable episodes of THE X-FILES, direct this mind-bending martial-arts extravaganza.

    Inspired by the disappearance of a young white girl in the 1930s — and the subsequent refusal of her father to allow an Aborigine member of the New South Wales police force to search for her — this concise feature from director Rachel Perkins is an ambitious exploration of the prejudice faced by indigenous Australians. Kim Batterham's photography captures the wild beauty of the outback and rock star Paul Kelly excels in his first film role as the farmer who ignores wife Kaarin Fairfax's plea to let tracker Kelton Pell find their daughter (who's been lured into the bush by the beauty of the Moon). The story is engrossing, but it's the expression of the characters' emotions through songs — combining indigenous, Celtic and contemporary country/folk styles — that makes this film so unique and moving.

    Mediocre at best

    Script is terrible.

    Acting EVEN worse.

    FX - quite good.

    Cinematography - non-existant.

    Believability - ZERO.

    Don't waste your time. This is not a good film. The 3 mins of decent special effects are eclipsed by the terrible acting and script.

    BORING. DULL. TIRESOME. WASTE OF TIME.

    Should have known better.....

    If you like your martial arts and like me you train in them then you could be mistaken for getting quite excited about this film.

    When I heard that Jet Li was releasing a film that used the internal chinese boxing skills of Hsing I and Ba-gua I thought great!!!!! But as a kind of good vs Evil, parallel universe, special effecty type affair I thought to myself... hmmmm this could be a bit on the dodgy side!

    From a martial art point of view Jet Li is, as always on form. From a film viewers point of view, this is not a film that will challenge you in anyway... it comes across a bit hollow.
