I should have known....
By a customer from North Staffs , 17 Aug 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Well, I thought the plot surrounding a set of parellel universes, and a single person gaining strength, speed etc from killing off the other versions of himself was a grounding for a decent movie. I'm not all that fussed with martial arts stuff, but a good scrap is a good scrap, so I chose this movie to watch.
It had all the right ingredients, a good and an evil character, both played by Jet Li, and the promise of a well thought out action film.
Unfortunately, it all just ended up as Jet fighting lots of people, and Jet, in a sub-Matrix way, with lots of posturing and not a bruise to be seen after all the wall hitting and general knocking about. This meant no real tension, and I couldn't have cared less which of the 'twins' made it, twist or no.
On the plus side though, Jason Stathams american 'accent' was a laugh-a-sentence, and Jet's alternative others with wigs from hell did add an extra star to an ordinary, un-exciting film. There you go.- Was this review helpful to you?

(63)One for the boys?
By TheWatchman (489 reviews) from Suburbia , 19 Dec 2012The One is about the multiverse. For anyone not up on modern sci-fi, thats the premise that there are countless different universes, all running parallel to our own. Here we see Jet Li, travelling from one universe to the next, killing the other versions of himself until there is only one left. The One, to be precise. However, he comes up against some resistance in the form of his last self (also played by Jet Li), plus the ever reliable hardman, Jason Statham, as a multiverse FBI agent. The One came out between the Matrix 1 and 2 and many people said, why wait for the Matrixs sequel, just watch The One. I can see where theyre coming from. The two films are certainly in the same genre, mixing science-fiction with slow-motion martial arts fight scenes. Personally, I dont think its as good as the (first) Matrix and it may not have quite the budget of the sequels, but its definitely worth a look for those sci-fi/martial arts fans. Im not sure whether women would be The Ones target audience, it may be more for the boys to cheer on as hapless extras are punched and kicked in all manner of unrealistic directions to the sound of pumping rock anthems. Dont let Stathams questionable American accent put you off. Give it a go. I give The One The Four.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Burty1976 (1 review) , 20 Jun 2011This film is terrible, no story just a lot of really bad special effects fighting. Save yourself a couple of hours of your life and watch songs of praise instead!- Was this review helpful to you?
