Sorely underrated 70s horror
By Steven West from Norfolk, England , 17 Apr 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
With a subtly conveyed twist that has since become de rigeur in mainstream supernatural horror movies, this early 70's chiller has long been an underrated gem of the genre. Beginning as a lushly photographed rites of passage movie about two twin brothers, it slowly turns into a genuinely frightening story of grief, loss and cold-blooded murder. With some truly startling moments in the final reels, excellent performances and a quietly malevolent score by Jerry Goldsmith, THE OTHER is a mini-masterpiece of subdued horror.- Was this review helpful to you?

(8)Dated Chiller
By Cato (703 reviews) from Lydbury North , 25 Feb 2013Seems very dated today, but in its time was probably quite scary. The boy in the lead part is genuinely very good, and I'm surprised that he doesn't appear to have done any more acting. It's quite a crazy and unlikely plot, but it does have it's moments as a chiller.- Was this review helpful to you?

Slow burn but wait till the end...
By thebanished (17 reviews) from UK , 18 Aug 2011Made in 1972, this is a slow starter but worth the wait as turns into a beautiful example of Psychological horror.
The little boy is wonderfully acted, a little confusing to begin with, with slight confusion over the twins but let yourself go and it will be worth the wait!
Ignore people saying it's boring on here, this film is an early example of a fine art.- Was this review helpful to you?

Slow and boring
By a customer from North Wales , 16 Aug 2011Very slow and obvious film which steals it's story from other, much better films. My advice is don't rent it. A big disappointment.- Was this review helpful to you?

no longer shocks
By itstinks (681 reviews) from North of Reading , 01 Oct 2008It must have been fairly scary and shocking at the time but for todays savvy audience who have seen too many films with the same premise can spot the twist well in advance and although the young boys do very well with the hokum dialogue it is no longer scary.- Was this review helpful to you?
