    [Highly rated reviewer]

Because so many of Ozu`s films deal with the middle class family he`s often stereotyped as a purveyor of cosy domestic dramas when they all differ in treatment and deal with individual social and cultural decay

These films do not contain excessive emotional exposition• In fact the grim and disturbing tone is closer to horror movies {especially Tokyo Twilight}• Any dramatic action takes place off stage but it`s the dramatic implications which are enacted in each viewer`s brain that are so potent•••Transitional existence••Youth with no prospects whatsoever•• Older generations looking back in despair and failure ••society slowly crumbling as community spirit atomises into individual selfishness and delusion

The acting is exceptional and the direction as usual is on a level way beyond any other director
