Decent Enough, But Where Is The Love?By David Levy from Totteridge, London , 19 Oct 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]It says a lot about 'The Pallbearer' that the most interesting thing in it is that it features two 'Alias' alumni, Michael Vartan and Greg Grunberg, and that it shows what a lifeless, emotional void of an actress Gwenyth Paltrow can be.
The story is simple enough. The cast is smattered with actors recognisable and at the same time forgettable, (Michael Rappaport is his usual, annoying self) but special mention should go to Barbara Hershey, who lights up the screen every time she is on it, despite having to play a dreary and somewhat depressing role.
The film suffers badly on certain levels. David Schwimmer is never a leading man, and his whiny, puppy dog schtick becomes tired very easily, and very quickly. The dialogue shifts from pacy and funny to strained and lifeless far too often, and there seems to be a real lack of chemistry between anyone in the cast. Gwyneth Paltorw, supposedly the object of Schwimmer's desire, looks dreary and gaunt, hardly the stuff dreams are made of.
The Pallbearer is a decent enough movie, but pretty much instantly forgettable. You may want to see it to spot who else went on to bigger and better things, but as a stand alone movie, its a case of the glass is half empty.

Better than I had remembered...By mallefunction (20 reviews) from Glasgow , 23 May 2013I first saw this film a few years ago and could never really get into it but I'm glad I decided to give it another go.
'The Pallbearer' is very much a film of the 90s (a favourite decade of mine) but there is still a lot that will appeal to a contemporary audience; Tom (David Schwimmer) and Julie (Gwyneth Paltrow) make for an interesting and slightly offbeat leading couple whilst Barbara Hershey also stands out as the mother of Tom's recently deceased 'friend' that he struggles to remember. The plot is far more natural than typical Hollywood fare of the time and look out for some nice location shots of mid 1990s New York City.
There are a couple of slow moments but the film still carries itself at a good pace. If you like this then I would also recommend Anthony Minghella's 'Mr Wonderful' from 1993.
The SnorebearerBy a customer , 28 Apr 2013Rubbish a waste of time watching as you keep waiting for a storyline and it just doesn't happen. It's like watching paint dry
Not worth the watchBy susiefilm (10 reviews) , 22 Sep 2012This was incredibly slow. The story was moderately interesting but not worth watching it through like I did. Not surprised that only one person likes it as this goes to press!
