Peter Sellers went into this film as character support and came out a star. David Niven is the ostensible lead in a rather dull setting-up of the plot, in which the bumbling Inspector Clouseau is called in to prevent the theft of a precious diamond known as the Pink Panther. But Sellers's dud officer was so scene-stealingly comic that director Blake Edwards inserted new scenes. The rest is hysterical history. See it from the beginning: the cartoon title sequence with its Henry Mancini theme is an in-the-pink joy.
Sporadically engaging mixture of pratfalls, Raffles, and Monsieur Hulot, all dressed to kill and quite palatable for the uncritical.
Dated. Film plods along. Is more about seeing pretty girls than Peter Sellers' comedy and antics.
The title sequence was excellent, very clever. After that the film started going downhill, only getting better when we turned it off.
Such a shame, I'm a big fan of Peter Sellers but this does not do him justice (any more). DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM IF YOU ENJOY HIS OTHER WORK.
I remember this film as being incredibly funny but I re watched it and was very disappointed! It is 'The Return of the Pink Panther' and 'Shot in the Dark' that I must be remembering. One thing I don't recall is why everyone fancied David Niven. He was just a sleaze bag and REALLY awful looking! Anyhoo that's for the girls to answer! Not that funny and a disappointing memory lapse.

Beckham was heavily criticised by sections of the media after the European Championships when it was suggested that his commercial activities had contributed to his below par performances. But Becks has always remained adamant that he strikes the right balance... Read more
