Extreme views of Crystal Palace
By a customer , 24 May 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
It is very much of its time and a very dated fantasy poetic film made by a Californian poet. Fascinating though to see the overgrown ruins of Crystal Palace as a setting for a young Hattie Jacques and Lindsay Anderson amongst others.
The dvd also has a BBC 'test card transmission' film on it that was made by BBC engineers, for BBC engineers about the building of the Crystal Palace transmitter tower (designed by BBC engineers). In the 1950's and 60's most daytime tv consisted of 'test card' transmissions - for BBC engineers.
It is difficult to believe that anyone ever paid to make such a stunningly bad and uncompromisingly tedious film. It was only ever shown as a test card transmission film for a month. Watch it and see why.
It has the value of making the other film look like the high art its maker felt it was.- Was this review helpful to you?

By mike57 (2 reviews) , 31 Jul 2011It was the most boring film I have ever watched.
