Make sure you get the right Poseidon Adventure disc! (There are three Poseidons, all similar plot)

This 2005 remake of the 1972 classic is a dud. A midweek afternoon TV movie, really. Disc ended halfway through, not sure if you need a 2nd one, I couldn't be arsed anyway.

Haven't seen Poseidon the 2006(07?) remake but the 1972 original is a disaster-movie classic, even if a bit corny now. Gene Hackman, Shelley Winters, Ernest Borgnine, all Hollywood greats.

This was so bad we had to turn it off after just 30 mins, and what a waste of 30 mins it was. Terrible acting, prefered the original and that wasn't great.

This was not bad at all great story. They moved the story to moden times (i.e blowing the side of the ship with a bomb) They had a great cast with Rutger Hauer & Adam Baldwin. The only let down was the SFX they where very weak.

Risible, absolutely risible. In this version, there is no tidal wave - just a group of anti-US terrorists (all of whom, thanks to the usual paranoia of our Cousins from the Colonies, are of a decidedly middle eastern skin tone). The set up to the action takes 58 minutes to deliver - during which time we seem to be watching a ham fisted edition of 'The Love Boat' as various singletons get it on and various couples-in-crisis fight their way around the gangways. All the old sterotypes are there - the Shelley Winters 'game old girl', the camp crew member, the priest, the Older Man/Younger Girl relationship, the Annoying Brat (this one is particularly annoying as he scoots round the ship filming everything on his digicam in order to release it as a blockbusting documentary of the wreck), the ships doctor, the two timing husband, his wife, his girlfriend.....The dialogue is corny beyond belief (one of the Navy rescuers - yes, this time we get to see the action from their point of view as well!- snaps off a salute and bawls 'Yessir! If theres anyone left on that ship, we're BRINGIN' EM BACK ALIVE!!'). Cue gungho music. Amusing to note that a cliff hanging situation occurs regularly every 18 minutes, leaving space for a commerical break (because this is so palpably made for TV that its unreal). The 'science' behind the turning turtle of the ship is nonsense and just doesnt hold water (pun intended) - would one beer keg of explosives turn the ship on its head?), and Steve Guttenberg not only gets to act like an ape (no news there) but also finds a way to show off his pecs and biceps at the slightest provocation.

    A real turkey!

Terrible film, awful thought it had finished badly after first film then realised we had to plough through as much again to have poor predictible ending, preferred the original equally bad.
