Peter Hyams knocked out some fairly decent action thrillers during the eighties and early nineties but unfortunately The Presidio wasn't one of them. It's not a particularly great or riveting storyline and the characters are very two-dimensional. Although Connery puts in a solid performance as usual, Mark Harmon is pretty wooden and Meg Ryan is in her 'annoying love interest' period of her career. There's a decent opening car chase sequence and a typical Hyams running sequence halfway through but apart from this you'll have trouble trying to stay awake.- Was this review helpful to you?

Disappointingly Bad
By a customer from Lancashire , 03 Dec 2010I can't believe a film staring Mark Harmon, Sean Connery & Meg Ryan could be so bad. Set firmly in the 80's it was always going to look a bit dated but this is surpassed by the 'required' street car chases that don't quite fit in seamlessly, the absolutely awful overacted posturing between Connery & Harmon and the lack of believable attraction between Harmon & Ryan. The obligatory sex scene is cringeworthy. The story isn't that bad overall, just the acting is beyond terrible from all 3 well known faces. Definitely one to miss.- Was this review helpful to you?

Killing Military Police is bad for your health!
By Charles Brickley from Andover, Hampshire England , 26 Nov 2007It has been nearly twenty years since I first saw this film on the big screen and whilst I remembered Sean Connery's acting, the plot and the supporting cast had faded.
Watching it again reminded me why, Sean as the top military cop (Lt Col Alan Caldwell) was very good, especially in the Bar Brawl, but regretfully Mark Harmon as ex-MP now SFPD Detective Jay Austin and Meg Ryan as the love interest Donna Caldwell had not quite attained the polish that they now possess.
The photography was dark and the plot was a bit 'iffy' but the shoot outs made life more interesting. By the way you can see Diamonds in water, because they refract the light at a different wavelength!
Special mention must go to Jack Warden whose short but excellent cameo made an interesting fillet.
Not one of Director Peter Hyams most memorable productions, but steady and workmanlike it kept my interest for the full 97 minutes.
Worth the money to hire but not one on my list of 'Must See and Keep Films'.- Was this review helpful to you?
