  • Violent revenge movie

    [Highly rated reviewer]

I bought the American DVD of this film a couple of months ago based on reviews I'd come across, and I was not disappointed with it. It is not a continuous slap bang action movie (like many of Seagal's 'straight to video' efforts), there are long periods of character development couple with short quite violent action scenes, and you end up with the impression that the Punisher himself, while being sympathetic to his plight, is probably quite psychotic and deranged as a result of the murder of his family. John Travolta has an easy pay day in this movie - his character doesn't have to do too much development in this film.

Perhaps one criticism is that the film is too long - you could probably take about 20 minutes out of the film without really affecting the storyline (from the US DVD release anyway).

  • Brilliant film!

One of my favourite childhood films, definitely worth watching, not like all the other brainless 'Not got a scratch on him' films.

I'd consider watching it before showing your kids if you're like that, but it didn't do me any harm. Brilliant for father son bonding :P

This could have been a really good movie but got screwed up by ham acting and scenes that would have been better placed on a comedy.

Entertainment value and certainly wont be on a future rental list of mine.

amazing film that just shows that The Mist with Jane in didn't do his acting justice.

lots of brilliant high octaine action, with some funny bits as well, and Travolta is just brilliant as always.

    defo worth seeing.

  • A Punishing Bore.

Having only seen the first and third adaptation of The Punisher with Dolph Lundgrens The Punisher, awful, and Ray Stevenson in The Punisher : War Zone, pleasantly surprised if not blown away, but on the strength of this installment, I can only imagine the law of diminishing returns goes backwards with this franchise.

This is a very eighties tinged movie, something that I imagine was covered with the eighties version starring Dolph Lundgren.

The Punisher 2004 is neither exciting nor boring, it is stuck in some kind of strange middle ground where scenes come and go, others make a mediocre impression and there are a few amusing scenes yet nothing really gels and the air of eighties action and dialogue hangs over the film like the film it is supposedly rebooting.

Thomas Jane is awful as Frank Castle on a quest for revenge, John travolta rings it in and the normally reliable Jonathan Hensleigh scripts like an overexcited ten year old with too much reverance for the original movie.

    Very Poor

The film was dreadful. No emotion in the characters, now real feel, bad filming. There was no connection to the characters. too unrealistic also, and he's not even a superhero! so disappointed with this film. And disappointed that I'm disappointed.
