Violent revenge movieBy a customer from Birmingham, UK , 24 Dec 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]I bought the American DVD of this film a couple of months ago based on reviews I'd come across, and I was not disappointed with it. It is not a continuous slap bang action movie (like many of Seagal's 'straight to video' efforts), there are long periods of character development couple with short quite violent action scenes, and you end up with the impression that the Punisher himself, while being sympathetic to his plight, is probably quite psychotic and deranged as a result of the murder of his family. John Travolta has an easy pay day in this movie - his character doesn't have to do too much development in this film.
Perhaps one criticism is that the film is too long - you could probably take about 20 minutes out of the film without really affecting the storyline (from the US DVD release anyway).

Good story lineBy MadViking (56 reviews) from Dorchester , 01 Aug 2009This a typical vigilante film and the Punisher takes a long time to change personality. It is obviously extremely violent but everything fits well together. The main character is well acted and certainly much better than John Travolta who has an easy role with little character. This is worth watching if you like action/vigilante films.
badBy gilesh (108 reviews) from portesham , 29 Jul 2009Having recently seen 'Punisher, War Zone' I was interested to see this version of the story. Unfortunately this film looked like a made for TV movie - and not a good one! The plot was just silly and the characters unbelievable. Travolta's villain was laughable (like a pantomime bad man) but at least he was trying, all the other actors seemed to be half asleep through out the whole thing especially T. Jane who was awful!!
My advice , rent 'Punisher, War Zone' a superior film all round.
Fantastic!!!By Buzz7 (1 review) from Bristol , 27 Jul 2009Marvel out did themselves on this second re working of the Punisher story hence why i gave it the generous 5 star rating!! Thomas Jane's casting as Castle was genius as was Taravolta's !! Pity they've ruined this with a truly appalling follow up with nobady's in the title rolls!! Should of paid Thomas Jane what ever he wanted to do a sequel!!!
The PunisherBy Redrum612 (66 reviews) from Sheffield , 06 Jun 2009I wasnt especially wanting an Oscar worthy intellectually challenging event with this movie, but it fell down in several places where these sorts of movies shouldn't.
Ordinarily, the cheesy lines and bad acting are compensated for by huge explosions and extreme violence and a few cheap laughs. In this, the amount of cliches and dumb ass one liners was utterly shameful and none of them were actually funny.
The comic relief character of Dave provided no laughs, and the evil organisation headed up terribley by John Trovolta wasn't threatening and were utterly useless at times.
It would have been better if it had taken a page out of Shoot 'Em Up's book, with one liners and shabby acting balanced out by brilliant action scenes. This was a pretty poor attempt at what would seem to be an easy story to make a film of
