Two Great ClassicsBy CyberDan from London , 04 Feb 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]This is the original film of The Railway Children and is so good, and still in excellent condition technically, one wonders why they bothered with the recent, near identical, remake. Great to see it again after all these years. And in Widescreen!
The film of Swallows and Amazons is just SO wonderfully done you could watch it time and time again. I went out to buy a copy so that I can! The only thing wrong with the film is that they truncated the book and it finishes after the Battle of Houseboat Bay.
Unfortunately this release is not widescreen and has no subtitles.
It is a good transfer of a reasonable print.
P.S. In the film Susan says 'I said BRING two of everything, not PUT ON two of everything!' but in the book she says 'You'd better put on two of everything' to Roger.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideMy mum recommended this film to me as one of the best films she watched as a child. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised! This film has a feel good movie and even made me cry at the end! The actors are fantastic and really make it believable. The only thing that could have made it better was if I wasn't on the edge of my seat the whole time expecting someone to get killed on the train track! But I guess that just goes to show the type of movies that are made nowadays! They certainly don't make them like this anymore!
The Railway ChildrenBy a customer from Crook , 03 Feb 2009Brilliant, I saw this as a youngster and loved the film. It is just an all time classic film that all the family can watch and enjoy.
The Railway ChildrenBy a customer from Southport , 16 Jan 2009Absolutely loved this TV remake. Jemima Rooper fabulous as Bobby and Jenny Agutter does a good job as Mother although not as good as Dinah Sheridan. Must have been very strange playing the mum to her original character. I think it's every bit as good as Lionel Jeffries version, although the film format not as good. Would watch this again and again. And I still weep at the end....
