What a revelation this was. With the current taste for ever more spectacular special effects and bucketloads of gore in our film industry, it was a joy to sit down and watch this beautiful gentle film. The basis is a wonderful story, guaranteed to tug at the heartstrings of even the most cynical of us but the main contribution comes from the cast. What a line up! Jenny Agutter is great as always (how strange it must have been for her, playing the mother of her former character), the ever reliable and much underrated Michael Kitchen and a stunning performance from Jemima Rooper - wouldn't we all like our daughters to turn out like that? All this and a fine supporting cast to boot! I'm going to buy this film, for those ever more common moments when I need my faith in human nature restoring...
I had put this on by mistake. I was looking for the onw with Bernard Cibbins in, however I must say that I did enjoy the film, though there were one or two changes. The story is of 3 chldren, who have to give up there rich life and play at being poor for a while and there adventure's set around the local train station and the inhabitants of the village. It was strange seeing Jenny Agater playing the mother instead of the eldest child. Well worth watching with the kids. But I will always prefer the 2nd version then the 3rd
