    Brain food

Dawkins is one of the leading intellectuals in the public eye at this time.

He is eloquent, learned and very well informed, which makes his encounters with the self-righteous all the more entertaining and jaw-dropping.

In this series of documentaries Dawkins relays his incredible passion for science and reason and his disdain for the unquestionable respect that belief in the supernatural still receives today.

Like his books Dawkins' work has the potential to switch on your brain by engaging you directly and honestly. Prepare to have the core of your beliefs challenged and to walk away with plenty to think about.

If you haven't encountered Dawkins before I strongly recommend you see these documentaries.

    Good but.....

There is some repetition which is bound to happen with such a focused and short series but in general I found it informing and fascinating.

Minus one star for the overbearing rubbish music which completely fails to add a cinematic “atmosphere” to this documentary and ultimately leaves you wanting to throttle the director!

    Recommended intellectual discussion

This is a well filmed and interesting discussion of the scientific evidence for evolution. Dawkins leads intelligent discussions, though he takes too many swipes at religion to even pretend to be neutral. This is not for you if you are upset by atheism and atheists!

    Wake up! Wake up!

I can't say too much about this, other than Mr Dawkins is a superlative communicator of science, ethics and spirituality and demands greater attention. I would suggest anyone with a skeptical nature should see these documentaries. The section on superstition, particularly the part that dealt with Homeopathy was depressingly familiar and shocking in its bare-faced irrationality.

The only problem I have is the knowledge that the deluded (i.e. the faithful), like the hapless water diviners and the hokey healing crystal sellers, will probably carry on being the deluded, regardless of the masterful rhetoric brought to bear throughout.

In addition, if you get the opportunity, try to pick up a copy of his book 'The Blind Watchmaker' - its also superb.

Dawkins tells it as it is

Both of these series are good, very good in fact. Dawkins explains all his points extremely clearly and does a great job of interviewing a variety of loonies from religous fruit-cakes, to the alternative medicine brigade peddling their pseudo-science. None of his interviews are insulting mind, he's too clever for this.

Surely the modern day champion for evidence and reason.

    Dawkins meet the Archbishop

A great series but the most impressive part for me was the short but very revealing discussion with the Archbishop of Cantebury. (Good for him to appear!) Wonderful high brow language and idea ping-pong but effectively check mate to Dawkins! Would the Archbishop or RD care to comment?

    Informative but Dawkins

In a way I feel sorry for Prof. Dawkins. He just doesn't get why people react the wrong way. He seems to annoy and offend most of the people he interviews, and then wonders why they are annoyed and offended. You can see he's trying to stay calm and polite but not really succeeding. And he's overly expectant of religious conversions, and then his face betrays his disappointment when the conversions do not happen. Devoutly religious about Darwin, reading Origin of Species in a pose just like a vicar reading the Bible, he fails to impress in this one. The only reason I gave it three and a half stars is because he's bashing religion as usual, which is always a good laugh. Apart from that, if you really want something informative or interesting, maybe see his BBC 'The Root of Evil' series. At least it's more coherent and doesn't seem to just be an exercise in trying to convert schoolkids to atheism.
