Whether you enjoy this film depends on whether you can suspend belief far enough to enjoy this type of fantasy. It did not work for me, although I can understand people liking it.
The suspense is well built up.
I have seen the Japanese version as well as this remake, but I found too many loose ends in the storyline to make it interesting.
If you have not seen it, I would say it is worth giving it a go. You may enjoy it. Even though it was not for me, I thought it was quite well produced.- Was this review helpful to you?

(317)Lacks the eerie tenseness of original film
By Jammyhouse (130 reviews) from Wakefield , 10 Mar 2012The original Japanese version of this film in my view cannot be bettered, despite the English sub-titles. This remake lacks the eery tenseness that set ones skin creeping. A disappointing film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Disappointing and ultimately rather pointless remake.
By Cthulhuboy (30 reviews) from Sheffield , 20 Oct 2011I would highly recommend watching the highly original Japanese film, or even the polished Korean version, as this Hollywood remake is very disappointing, with it's only redeeming feature being its stylish cinematography and the fact that at least it's not a scene-by-scene clone.
However, they seem to have tried too hard in an effort to embellish, as they have considerably changed some of the background story and replaced it with far too much wordy exposition, additional material and embarassing and occasionally schmaltzy histrionics by the main characters.
The suspense, mystery and sheer freaky oddness of the original have been watered down and key story elements and scenes just don't have the same depth or power, even though they have obviously chucked more money at it.
Ultimately it feels somewhat expensive, pointless and rather dull - a feeling I also got when watching the director's pirate-based cash cows. (A shame, because I thoroughly enjoyed his kids film, Mouse Hunt.)- Was this review helpful to you?

Alas, nothing to do with The Ring of power...
By brianw4815 (122 reviews) from United Kingdom , 10 Feb 2011When it comes to your typical horror-fare, The Ring is an above average experience, but far from a great one. Boring, uninspired and incredibly predictable, the ring is a film that sits directly on the 'meh' bar. Get a few friends together and have a laugh, or turn out all the lights and try and freak yourself out...The Ring is entertaining, if only just.- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer from Sheffield , 15 Sep 2010This film was by far the best remake of oriental horror movie , and in its own right a good story well done. It's a sort of a mystery with supernatural video tape which you just cant help but watch- Was this review helpful to you?
