After a three year delay we can all breathe a sigh of relief, as The Rum Diary is certainly worth the wait.

The hum-drum diary!
By Stocks (13 reviews) from Eastleigh , 23 May 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
There were some quite funny moments, but unfortunately they didn't really link together in any sort of coherant way.
I usually like Johnny Depp films but this one was just odd. Most of the film is just him wandering around. I couldn't really make out any sort of storyline.
If you are drunk yourself and feel like killing a couple of hours then go for it!- Was this review helpful to you?

Poor Story and Avoid at all cost
By Banterman (10 reviews) , 23 Jul 2012This was a very slow and awful story line. Jonny Depp was rubbish in it. There was no structure to the movie and the film was completely boring, avoid at all cost. Dialogue from the script was very bad and each scene didnt seem to link at all well.- Was this review helpful to you?

Don't expect a grand finale
By Picaboo (10 reviews) from Southampton, England , 23 Jul 2012Although I would watch anything with Mr. Depp in it, this movie was weak and not enjoyable in my opinion. It could be enough as background movie while you ironing or painting your nails, but nothing I would chose to see once again. And if you are waiting for the grand finale at the end, forget it: it is weaker than weaker could be. Not enough for me, even with Mr. Depp.- Was this review helpful to you?

Bottoms up
By Whipster (663 reviews) from Shropshire , 19 Jul 2012Hunter S Thompson wrote The Rum Diary when he was 22, the background to which was his own experiences working on a paper in Puerto Rico. The movie is exceptionally well cast and although not particularly accessible at the start the storyline gradually pulls you in. Numerous wryly comic moments punctuate the plot. Set in the 1960's its basically the story of a writer who finds more to protect than he expects when big money rears its ugly head in the early days of mega property development deals. Weirdly enjoyable. 4 stars.- Was this review helpful to you?

GREAT FILM
By a customer , 16 Jul 2012Cannot believe this film has been given such bad reviews by so many people. Everyone entitled to their own opinions, but the humour alone was great. Well worth watching. I set off watching it thinking it was going to be awful due to reviews - but I was wrong. It was excellent. But watch it for yourself with an open mind and maybe you too will see it has hidden depths. Didnt realise how long it was till finished watching it!!- Was this review helpful to you?
