    [Highly rated reviewer]

If anybody wants to watch a piece of comic history! (I cant spell genious) then watch how the pre-fab four forged a leg end, sorry! legend, a living leg end that would last a lunch time... etc etc

This film is pure.. gen... erm geni... erm brainwaves! that will last longer than tome itself!!!

    WATCH THIS FILM!!!

Spinal Tap Misses the mark compared to this.. Learn from the master... Eric Idle!!! and the fantastic Beatles Parody of Neil Innes. However if you are not a child of the 60's, learn what your parents are up to under the power of tea!! and rent a seriously funny film!!! see George Harrison, Mick Jagger and all having the time of YOUR life!!!

    RENT THIS FILM NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Derek

If you like Pythonesque humour, and if you remember the Beatles (you don't need to be an anorak about Beatles things, just to have been around at the time), then you'll love this 'mockumentary'. It's quite short, but the way it takes off everything from the Beatles' clothes to their movies and song titles - all with the pretence that it's dealing with a group called the Rutles (from Rutland) - is just brilliant. They even get the real Paul Simon and Mick Jagger to take part, although more of their interviews appears under Deleted Scenes than within the main film!

The Rutles is a spoof docu-drama and parody of the Beatles. A special 73 minute long tv episode by the Monty Python team. This film is presented by an unnamed narrator (Eric Idle) who walks the streets, interviewing fans and other people who knew the Rutles. Giving an insight into the lives of Ron Nasty, Stig O'Hara, Barry Womble and Dirk McQuickly. It parodies the ups and downs of the Beatles to the letter. Fans of both the Beatles and Monty Python alike will love this. It is a great television programme, with great cast appearances from Saturday Night Live, such as the late John Belushi, along with a young Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd, along with Beatle member George Harrison, who make hilarious cameos.

This movie has great songs, Get Up and Go, Piggy in the Middle, and Yellow Submarine Sandwich, which was greatly animated by Terry Giliam. It is also very clever and works as a great social satire of Beatle mania. It is entertaining as hell, but makes a very clever social commentary on the 60s, and is another example of cult television entertainment. When this was originally released on prime time tv in America, it was unsuccessful, but over time it has gained in popularity and I would highly recommend it.

I had forgotten just what a funny film The Rutles is. Brilliant performances and the music by Neil Innes is just glorious. A treat.

It certainly blazed a trail for 'Spinal Tap.' Very clever, albeit repetitive at times, with some excellent pastiche music that could almost have been penned by the Beatles. Anyone not familiar with the story of the fab four might be disappointed as I feel it needs a fair of 'local knowledge' of the 60s to be able to appreciate it to the full. Nevertheless, a good, warm-hearted leg-pull and Mick Jagger was amazingly convincing.
