I have been looking forward to this immensely, since watching Pranzo di ferragosto earlier in the year - and am pleased to report that it was well worth the wait. It is exactly the sort of gentle Italian comedy that mixes a warmth and emotion with very closely observed cutting insights on the human condition, which has made Gianni Di Gregorio’s name both at home and abroad. Again, it is a joy to see the beautiful locations in and around the Trastevere district and to enjoy a cast of Italian types and talents. The type of film that brightens up your mood and lightens life.

  • Love, temptations over 50

Perfectly pictured atmosphere of relations between people and hidden temptations of an early retired man whose life now became predictably repeatable. He is still longing for close contacts with females he knew in his life but not really had, longing for vibrant life around sexy women but reality and life already casted clear role for him.

    Great fun to watch......

Not a great film but certainly a lovely film. The locations glow and the characters are devine, like a Bill Forsyth film made in Italian. Nobody is bad, they are just unknowing, flaky, deluded or self absorbed. The older, portly, bald lawyer friend who still thinks he's 'got it' is a gem.

  • Another little Roman gem from Gianni Di Gregorio…

    Rated - 5.0 stars

It’s always a pleasure to watch films in my mother tongue (the Roman accent is glorious)….and I used to live in the same Roman quartiere, Trastevere, so it always brings back lovely memories. Gianni Di Gregorio has created another little gem, after the wonderful “Pranzo di Ferragosto” (mid August Lunch)….this time, he ponders why men of his age become invisible to women and are virtually ignored….something that terrifies his friends in real life. I’m not sure why they called it “Salt of life” in English when the Italian title was “Gianni e le donne” (Gianni and women)….His actual daughter plays his daughter in the film and the little black dog is Gianni’s pet in real life….a wonderful slice of everyday Roman life…the men sitting outside chatting is especially typical as well as the terminally unemployed boyfriend of the daughter….we want more Gianni! His mother in the film, Valeria De Franciscis, is simply hysterical as his over bearing and demanding mother. E complimenti Gianni, continua cosi...

  • Frustrated Italian lover

This is a slow and gentle movie about the frustrations of a man growing old and invisible to young sexy girls. Gianni drools over a succession of gorgeous women who sometimes flirt with him for fun, but ultimately are fairly oblivious to him. Sweet but not much happens. Not as good as mid-August lunch.
