A Real 'Gem'By Maynard (138 reviews) from Gillingham, , 08 Nov 2012
[Highly rated reviewer]I loved every moment of this story of four aboriginal girls singing their way roung Vietnam in the sixties, ably managed by their heavy drinking manager played by Chris O'Dowd. It's even better when you realise that it's based on fact and not only deals with the girls and their manager but colour prejudice both in Australia and in Vietnam/USA.
However the best part of the film is the music which is 99% Motown and belted out by the girls with passion and in some cases a great amount of tenderness and feeling.
To sum up, this a great feel good film and I can't wait until the soundtrack is released and eventually the blu-ray.

Shines brightBy RJNeb2 (1017 reviews) from London , 20 Dec 2013Bracingly feisty musical drama set in 1968 that finds lowlife O'Dowd managing an all-girl Aboriginal singing group. Who happen to be pretty terrific and are sent to Vietnam to entertain the troops. As this is an Aussie entry, there's a saltiness to the proceedings and dialogue that makes it feel real and there are lots of laughs alongside the top tunes.
Sparkling perfomancesBy Happy-Housewife (23 reviews) , 06 Dec 2013Always love a true story and this doesn't disappoint - you're involved from the start - inspirational story - great music - I think the film could have been longer and a little more in depth - you're left wanting more
