Could do better
By jezfernandez (25 reviews) from Wantage , 03 Mar 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Veteran safe cracker Bobby de Niro is tempted to pull off one last job before retiring. A priceless sceptre is being held in the vault of a Montreal Customs House, and undercover Edward Norton can get him inside?
Wow! Can this be true? Robert de Niro, Marlon Brando and Edward Norton on screen together? Three generations of cinemas finest in a barn-storming heist movie? Well, settle down there sport, because this one ain?t all it?s cracked up to be. Frank Oz (yes, the muppet man who?s most famous on-screen outing was as the voice of Yoda) directs competently enough, but the result is nowhere near as cool as ?Ocean?s Eleven? nor as much fun as ?The Italian Job? (either version). There are only three principal characters here, with Brando waddling into various scenes, only to sit down again and tell Bobby how much he wants him to do this job. Edward Norton, a fine actor, is engaging enough but neither he nor de Niro sparkle as they have in the past. The material is entertaining, but Oz spends far too much time setting up the logistics of the job and by the time the final credits roll, you can?t help feeling just a little bit cheated.
This is a three star movie that?s distracting enough for a Friday night. If you like ?Heist? and the other two mentioned above, this one?s worth a look-see.- Was this review helpful to you?

(52)Just watch the second half
By TheWatchman (489 reviews) from Suburbia , 04 Apr 2013The Score is about a hardened thief (DeNiro) who gets cajoled into doing one last job by an up-and-coming criminal (Norton). Thats about that. The plot isnt anything to sing about, but we watch it anyway because of the impressive casting (not to mention Marlon Brando as a mob boss). I found much of the first half pretty dull. Its all scene setting and I was getting pretty bored. However, it all picks up the pace when they finally get round to pulling off the heist. The second half of the film is much better than the first. I know many people will say that the film needed the first half in order to build up character and get to know them, but, personally, I found that you could probably start watching the film about an hour in and still get everything out of it. The second half of the film makes it all worth watching. Theres plenty of hiccups along the way of the heist and it definitely isnt all plain-sailing. If you enjoy the whole film fair enough, but if (like me) you were tempted to turn it off, my advice is: dont it definitely gets better!- Was this review helpful to you?

Enjoyable film, but slow to start
By KelSmell (185 reviews) from Telford , 13 Feb 2013This film was good, but very slow to start. Which is why I have marked it down by half a star otherwise it would have got four. When it did get going though, it was brilliant. Just annoying that it took so long to get going. Very well acted though.- Was this review helpful to you?

That one last caper - yet again
By Geofbob (40 reviews) , 25 Dec 2012How many times have we seen a master criminal embark on his last big job, after which he'll retire to some sun-bathed resort etc etc? It never works out quite the way it's planned - nor does it here. It's fun watching the interplay between Brando, De Niro & Norton - but a more original & believable plot might have been a better way of exploiting their talent.- Was this review helpful to you?

enthralling intrigue
By viewmeister (1 review) , 17 Dec 2012Norton and De Niro play off each other superbly Brando adds to the mix and you have a heist/thriller that keeps you in it all the way. Best i,ve watched in ages .9out of ten. Agree ending a bit sudden but in no way affected my enjoyment.- Was this review helpful to you?

Edward Norton Is Wonderful In The Score
By a customer , 23 Sep 2012Both De Niro and Norton are in their element in this. I chose this film without reading anything about it, and so glad I have seen it now. And it has made me look up more Edward Norton movies.
The plot is thrilling, and funnily you are on the side of the robbers and just want them to succeed and not be caught. Not too sure about Marlon Brando being cast in this, I think someone else would have been better in his place, but the main men were brilliant!- Was this review helpful to you?
