Look Mum, no elbows

Ann Todd plays a rather good version of a damaged concert pianist, Trilby to James Mason's equally damaged Svengali. The psychiatrist who attempts to get things fixed with a mixture of narcotics and hypno-therapy is Herbert Lom. He would be struck off the register today, not just for dubious practice but also for his silly hair. The ending might make you gasp a bit. Having said all that, this is one of those films in which particular scenes keep returning to memory. 'What was that old film where ...?'. So watch this and remember the name. It is also worth noting that Ann Todd actually looks as if she might be playing the piano, instead of waving her elbows and perspiring.
