Having read the book and been mesmerised by the characters, who I came to know so well due to the authors skill in description and bringing them to life, I was hearbroken when I watched this movie. Within less than 45 minutes I found myself shouting at the screen. Basic things like characters nothing like the books descriptions, obvious mistakes or rewrites as to how incidents occurred, characters nothing like they were described, events that didnt happen suddenly appear and important events that occurred totally ignored.
I realise it is hard to compress a book of Shell Seekers into a film and there will always be differences but to have events included that were not there and vice versa... RIDICULOUS !
The lack of Cornish scenery as well and as it was in Porthkerris why was that never mentioned. It was not St Ives and St Michaels Mount.
If you have read the book don't watch this. If you have not read the book please do . I would love to know what Rosamund Pilcher thought of the movie.
I turned it off feeling angry that a great book had been ruined by some dippy producer who would be better off sweeping roads or emptying dustbins as he seems to enjoy rubbish!
This was a delightful film which held my interest all through
Location shots were wonderful and the characters well portrayed
If you've read the book you will be dissapointed, this is loosley based on the book! The scenery around cornwall however,is gorgeous and there are some O.K performances. It's a shame that it couldn't have stuck more to Rosemunde Pilchers wonderful book.
I love Anglea Lansbury. The acting from the rest of the actors was a bad at times especially the actor who plays the son. Who incidently i wanted to knock out most of the way through the film. One thing i will say about this film is it shows how ungrateful people are and the more money they have the more they want. And what horrible and down right disguistly selfish lenghts they will go to get more. LIke selling their own mothers treasured possessions!!!! Well worth a watc on a lazy sunday afternoon.
To a certain extent the storyline tended to portray life within many families were children bicker between themselves about their assumed selfish rights. Quite enjoyable, but at times it was difficult to determine who was who relationship wise.

Don`t always rely on parents inheritance.
If like me this book kept you in a mesmerising and cosy spell for a few days after finishing reading it, then you maybe nervous about a film made of it. Fear not - its like the 1995 version of Pride & Prejudice - very sensitively done and the characters are fab - good rainy, grey Sunday afternoon film.
