The Shining has been named the most terrifying film of all time in a new poll. The 1980 Stanley Kubrick classic, starring Jack Nicholson as a deranged writer, topped the list of the world's scariest movies ahead of Rosemary's Baby, directed by Roman Polanski. Jack Nicholson almost lost out on the role of The Joker in 1989's Batman movie - because Spider-Man star Willem Dafoe was director Tim Burton's first choice. Anthony Hopkins movie The Silence Of The Lambs has been named Britain's favourite thriller in a new poll. The 1991 film, which won five Academy Awards, topped a shortlist of ten pictures with more than a quarter of the total votes. Brad Pitt's 1995 crime/horror Seven came in second place with 20 per cent, and Steven King's The Shining was ranked third with 11 per cent, in the survey carried out by Yahoo Movies. A scene from Julia Roberts' classic film Pretty Woman has been voted the favourite movie moment of all time.
