    [Highly rated reviewer]

Fantastic movie by newcomer Baran Bo Odar. The subject is highly uncomfortable but gripping and excellently told. Nick Summerer's cinematography is stunning, and really adds to the tension. Brilliant piece by this young team which I highly recommend. Prepare yourself for a difficult couple of hours, though - it's not easy viewing.

always a pleasure to watch the excellent Ulrich Thomsen who navigates between German/Scandinavian cinema with ease. creepy & uncomfortable but worth discovering

  • Good Film with Tough Subject Matter

Interesting film that tells a very difficult story. I'm not sure if it tries to shock or if this is an inherent aspect of the subject matter. There is real craft and sensitivity here though and it is gripping. Reminded me a little of 'The Killing'. Very tough subject matter but a good film.

First, if you are going to be upset or offended by a film that in part deals with paeodophilia, don't rent this. A well crafted film where all the characters are very real with their individual hang-ups, motivations and failings, excellent acting throughout. Not a film for those who favour Hollywood pap, but, if you like The Killing etc you'll like this.

Really enjoyed this film (can be hard to please!) Sometimes find it hard to follow films with subtitles but not this one! Even though it was a pretty obvious storyline, kept me watching all the way through...thumbs up from me

  • The Big Yawn?

Very disappointing, every character in it was pretty messed up, not just the crazy killer but also the detectives. Given that we know whodunnit in the first 5 minutes, the rest of what could have been a gripping well-told story turned out to be a real slow drag, with the usual caricatured waste-of-space out-of-his-depth guy running the CID team. The whole film seemed to be shot in a time warp - the original murder seemed more like 1966 than 1986, and the second murder from 2009 seemed more like 1989, or are parts of rural Germany still so backward? I almost expected to see the locals riding round in horses and carts!
