Worth the wait?
By Filaytes Weltoni from South England , 10 Oct 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
Being a fan of the Simpsons for most of my life, I was trying not to get to excited about the film (for fear of being let down.) On first viewing in the cinema I was crushed. I waited for the big laughs. And waited... and waited... and then it was over.
On second viewing at home I quite enjoyed it as a film, it works quite well. It's just not funny, or not funny enough considering it's the Simpsons! The show packs in as many jokes as possible because it only has 20 minutes to work with, the film is 4 times as long as that. You are not bombarded with jokes, it is more about characters and flashy effects.
A let down, but not as bad as it could have been!- Was this review helpful to you?

Does not reach the usual high standards
By PaulHappy (151 reviews) , 11 Feb 2013I am a fan of the Simpsons and so was very expectant about this full length movie. Yes all the characters are there and that possibly was a weakness as it tended to dilute the plot in fitting them all in. The main characters (Simpson family) were as ever engaging with some nice lines - but the plot was simply not good enough and to be honest the film was too long and its sad when you are hoping it ends soon as I was. Personally I think the TV episode format works better and is about right time-wise. Overall, I was disappointed - not that it was bad but that it did not come near reaching the usual high standards of the Simpsons.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hmmm...epic plot....(arrrummmph)
By Fangg (28 reviews) from Newtonmore , 22 Aug 2012This is exactly what it should be. A massive Simpsons episode, with a little more of an epic plot, and some grandiose morals, but without losing what makes the Simpsons the Simpsons. Pretty much non-stop sight and sound gags, with some right classics in there (eg the infamous Spiderpig), but still managing to hold together a silly-enough plot to keep you entertained for the slightly longer running time. I was told by someone years ago that the film pretty much features every single regular-ish character, but i think this is far too much of a claim. For one, i didn't see Leonard Nimoy. But that wasn't a complaint. By any means. Enjoy the slightly enhanced graphics that prove you don't need 3D to do 3D, and wonder at the genius that is the simpsons scriptwriters. Its not a perfect animated film, but does it have to be? No. It needs to be a big-budget episode of the excellent TV show.- Was this review helpful to you?
