I like "The Sound Of Silence" by Simon and Garf.....a good song :)))

Anyone who reads all my reviews will know that I am mad about films of all genres and that I certainly like nice sentimental movies, including musicals, as much as any other sort. But this film, and its clones such as 'Mary Poppins', 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' etc just quite simply get on my nerves. With most of my reviews, I always try to be objective but with 'The Sound Of Music' I freely admit (with apologies to its many fans) my complete subjectivity and the fact I can't stand watching it (though I have several times, sadly). It shows how strongly I feel that I have forsaken my normal objectivity in reviewing films and I apologise to the many fans who made this such a well-loved, profitable and long-running movie and soundtrack album.
So I slink away, wearing my hair shirt and hoping that I never have to watch Ms Andrews or any of the obnoxious Trapps dancing thorugh the edelweis again.- Was this review helpful to you?

Just throw in a few singing nuns and some Nazis and you have the whole package. Schmaltzy reputation aside, “The Sound of Music” is still – and always will be – one of the greats with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer deftly navigating through the potential treacle to create some memorable characters. The Austrian landscapes are gorgeous, and the music even more so. Amongst the memorable songs, Peggy Wood’s rendition of “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” is the treat of all treats. Beautifully cleaned up for Blu-ray too.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Best musical ever

Much more than a sing song film!

I always thought it was going to be a rubbish sing song type of film (which in a way it is!) but I never realised there was a more serious side to it! The backdrop of the Nazi'sand the Austrian pride made this a very thought provoking and emotional film. Highly recommend!- Was this review helpful to you?
