Frank Miller - there IS egg on your face!!By NativityInBlack (119 reviews) from Birmingham , 02 Jan 2009
[Highly rated reviewer]Frank Miller needs to get another director to bring his visions to life, where Robert Rodriguez and Zack Snyder made brilliant adaptations of Millers graphic novels (Sin City and 300 respectivly), on this occasion Frank has gone it alone in the directors chair and the film feels....flat.
The characters are 1 dimentional and feel totally detatched from the viewer, and most of the time from each other too. You nver feel any attatchment to Spirit and dont particularly care what happens to him, further since we dont really see any citizens there isnt much concern for 'his' city either. the acting is ropey and even the stylised visuals feel tired and unimaginative, where dashes of colour were powerful in Sin City the whole film feels awash with blandness.
I highly recommend NOT seeing this film, 3/10 - total snooze fest

Pretty BadBy FROGFISH (37 reviews) from Sydenham , 23 Jul 2010I must admit I had low expectations of Spirit before I rented, so I can't say I was disappointed.
Its pure rubbish, but it still looks nice.
If you can switch off from the story (and a rather insipid male lead), you can enjoy the scenery.
Will Eisner meets Frank Miller, erm, obviously.By H0LLIE (198 reviews) from UK , 22 Jul 2010Will Eisner has long been recognised as one of the founding fathers of the comic book genre. Well ahead of his time when he was origionally published back in the 40s, the world is finally catching up.
Frank Miller has long been a favourite of mine. Sin City is, in my opinion, ground breaking (both the comics and the film). And with a handful of film making tips, no doubt garnered from Robert Rodriguez, he has done a spectacular job of bringing his mentor's most prolific work to the big screen.
For those of you who are familiar with the origional comic strips, this near black and white adaption may be hard to swallow. Lacking the vibrant colour and style of Eisner's work, this film did take some getting used to.
The bright and varied colours prevelant throughout the comic strips have been replaced with various shades of gray and odd splashes of red. Miller has clearly stamped his mark on this, completely making it his own. But the spirit of Eisner stands strong within the walls of Central City. The stark lines and hungry shadows of his world remain to remind you exactly where you are.
Though I would of expected more of a Dick Tracy kind of affair for this, Miller's approach works well. I found myself greatly enjoying this film, especcially upon the second viewing, once I had gotten used to the drastic changes.
If you're a fan of Frank Miller then this is a no brainer for you: it's no Sin City but I'm sure you'll love it. If you're more of a Will Eisner fan then keep an open mind and you might just find you greatly enjoy this. Think of it as 'Dick Tracy meets Sin City'.
oldie superhero type movieBy IM69 (151 reviews) from stonehaven , 30 Jun 2010Looks like it was made from older type superhero movies. Expected more, therefore got less.
Your choice if you want to waste your time.
what complete rubbishBy james1965 (23 reviews) from Cromer , 11 Jun 2010This ranks as one of the worst films i have ever seen, the acting was bad, the script was stupid and childish and the direction was dire. Dont waste your time watching this unless you're a masochist!!!
