This was touching, but somehow leaves you untouched. Although I (just about) caught the tail end of this period, it managed to feel as though I were watching a slightly patronising documentary on some long-vanished tribe. I thought that the insertion of the song and dance routines was clumsy, and slowed down the flow of the film.
That said, it is a well-acted, touching piece of social history.
