I can understand the younger element of our society not really being interested in this production because it is history. But it is modern day history with, toward the end, actually being in my lifetime.

My interest in trains generally, is quite restricted, but this presentation is so good that I could not take my eyes from it. It is, as the title suggests, the history of steam trains. It takes you through the ages of British Railways and, toward the end, ten minutes or so in other countries, and it's quite amazing to see the pollution that trains made.

I would recommend anyone, young or old, to watch this and enjoy the spirit of yesteryear, especially the early train drivers and stokers who virtually had to work in the unprotected elements through all seasons.

  • Well worth watching

Excellent DVD, quality of filming outstanding.

Story of Steam Locomotion from the days of 'Rocket' to their demise in 1968. Never knew there were so many variations of steam locomotives around on UK tracks.

Strangely near the end, the story lept to China, Cuba and Mongolia looking at their steam traction ????

Best to turn the sound up to get the full effects of loco`s climbing gradients.

If you are interested in Steam, then this is the DVD for you.
