Having evaded the clutches of a wicked magician in the previous adventure, Princess Odette is again imperilled in director Richard Rich's second sequel to the children's animated fantasy that began life as a reworking of Swan Lake. This time, it's an evil sorceress named Zelda who kidnaps the hapless princess in the hope that Prince Derek will hand over an enchanted treasure, known as the Forbidden Arts, that will give her even greater power than that of the dastardly Rothbart. Although Michelle Nicastro returns in the title role, the continuing absence of John Cleese as French frog Jean-Bob is a shame, especially as the animation is so functional and the songs so unhummable.
Pleasant but unmemorable animated film, much in the Disney manner Ð its director is a former Disney animator Ð but lacking both charm and polish.
my 9 year old daughter loved this film. it is about a young princess called Odette, who is betrothed to prince Derek, on the day that she is born.
both Odette and Derek's parents, arrange that they meet every summer, so that they may eventually fall in love, but instead exactly the opposite happens, they can not stand each other.
Until one day, the princess and prince grow up, and fall instantly in love.
On her way home, Odette's coach is attacked by an evil wizard, who wants to marry her, so that he can legally claim the throne, and rule her lands. She refuses to marry him, so until Odette accepts, she is turned into a swan every morning.
Every one believes she has died, except prince Derek.
he goes to look for her, and finds Odette as the swan princess. Derek vows to stop the evil wizard, and marry his true love.
well worth renting out.
This film tells the story of Swan Lake. We have the stunning Barbie film of this story, and I thought this would disappoint in comparison. Surprisingly, my 6 year old boy loves it! He asks for this film more than any other. It has great songs and a well fleshed out 'hero' for once (which is probably why he prefers it to the more Princess-orientated films).
Worth getting.
