    [Highly rated reviewer]

Basically this is the classic story based on the book ' The Sword And The Stone' which is taken from Medieval legend and folktale. young orphan Arthur is known to his foster family as ' Wart' he meets Merlin the wizard and the two go on some educational and thrilling journeys which result in wacky situations too! medievel legend purists won't be completely satisfied but this is close enough and the bit with Arthur taking Eckalibur from the stone is a great piece of cinema!

I really enjoyed this film, as I feel it has a good story to it. I have seen it before, and think it is really suitable for any age.

  • The Americanisms grate on you

I thought I'd watch this as I'm going through an Arthurian phase at the moment, having recently read The Once And Future King for the first time, and started working my way through Malory's Morte d'Arthur.

I missed Sword in the Stone as a kid in the 1960s, so it was new to me, but I was intrigued by the description of Merlin in The Once and Future King, which seemed to match one or two clips I had seen. Sure enough, like the 1960s musical Camelot, the film is based on the book.

But the Americanisms grated on me. Every time someone referred to a 'demerit' when Wart did something wrong, I cringed. And the depiction of Sir Ector and Sir Kay as some kind of bumbling nasty duo was just totally wrong.

Whats not to like. A typical disney film.

Enjoyable to watch a different take on King

    Arthur.

    The kids will love it.
