Cary on form!
By a customer from London , 08 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a must for any Cary Grant lover. A good story line and snappy script sees Cary on good form in this film. Playing a wrongly convicted murderer, hiding out as the gardener provides Cary with plenty of comic opportunities along the way. Similar style to the classic 'Philadelphia Story'.- Was this review helpful to you?

Farcically serious
By Cato (703 reviews) from Lydbury North , 29 Apr 2010The film starts out with a raging fire and degenerates into farce. A prisoner is on the run and calls at Jean Arthur's house in order to rest his sprained ankle. The plot is a good one, in that it is designed to accommodate two men vying against each other in legal matters and eventually, although very incidentally, in matters of the heart. I saw Jean Arthur in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington recently, but I couldn't remember her voice as being so annoyingly squeaky. However, conversely, Cary Grant's voice was not nearly as nasal as it usually is. Quite baritone in fact. The action is pleasing, and Ronald Colman gives another good performance, making it two Anglo/American actors as the leading men. A good evening's entertainment, but don't expect it to be too serious.- Was this review helpful to you?

Forgotten Gem
By a customer from Brighton , 22 Jan 2009This early Cary Grant film is far better than most romantic comedies of the period. It has a believable love triangle and some great dialogue and the occasion visual gag. I dare you to guess who the heroine will choose in the end!- Was this review helpful to you?
