This is one seriously long movie! And certainly not for an evening of light entertainment. I found it to be a profound, detailed and serious production. Given the age, it is an amazing accomplishment, and a thoroughly rivetting experience. Despite the length, it keeps you entertained throughout. And the storyline is simple enough to follow even if the underpinnings are somewhat convoluted.

  • Truly an epic production

Telling the story of something so important was never going to be easy. Tremendous cast and production, although a little long. I personally preferred the 2006 version as being truer to life, as such things as the tent (still the same today!) and the River Nile scenes are more accurately depicted.

To see Charlton Heston & Yul Bryner together in an biblical epic as this was incredible with scenes and some incredible special effects for the time when this was made. Definately on the TO DO LIST to watch for everyone young and old.... Simply a classic.

Fabulous three hours Viewing!! It has been years since I first watched this, but I remember it so well. Mostly because of the Parting of the sea scene...1956 this was made and the special effects were great!!

Two Fab actors in Charlton Heston as 'Moses' and the very sexy Yul Brynner as 'Rameses', as well as other big names just add to the excitement of the film.

The story as I remember learning from my school days of 'Moses' leading the Hebrews from slavery, is one that always stayed with me.

One I have no doubt in my mind, I shall watch again!!

Only one thing marred this this truely epic picture, which I'll get to in a minute. The film may seem dated but that is only to be expected, it is still amazing to see such a large scale film, who in terms of size has only recently been challenged with the likes of Gladiator and the Lord of the Rings series. Knowing the story of Moses to some degree meant there was little to surprise me, but it was good to see the biblical characters being brought to life with such clear archetypes to hold help you get a fell for their world. Which leads me to the flaw. Charlton Heston's Moses, is far too saintly for the film's own good and Yul Brynner's Pharoh is far too evil. Regardless, of how the Bible talks of Moses Charlton's portrayal is a clear flaw in the film. In this film Moses can do no wrong while Yul Brynner can do no right, which doesn't help you relate to importance Moses' mission.
