Having been on the inside of politics in the UK, its astounding how close this comes to the reality. This truly is the British answer to The West Wing. The only great travesty is that there have only been 6 episodes plus a couple of specials ever made.
I can only recommend this for those with a strong stomach for verbal abuse as it is truly and assault on the ears of endless swearing. Its in a similar style to The Office but altogether darker, more twisted and youll cringe at all the characters!
The Malcolm Tucker character (played brilliantly by Capaldi) is a tour de force in the Alistair Campbell type role. Theres a deep cynicism and rawness at the heart of politics and The Thick of It portrays this superbly.
Dont rent it if you liked Yes, Minister :)
I missed this when first broadcast and only really heard about it after the fact. Reading numerous rave reviews I decided to give it a watch. I would recommend this to everyone, it is brilliant. Without doubt one of the finest British comedies of the last 10 years and in my opinion the finest political comedy ever. The show has a frantic feel with no obvious jokes or punchlines. The humour comes from perfectly flawed characters and the looming terror of Peter Capaldi's Malcom Tucker. An obvious satire of Blair's cabinet the show works because of the the shiftless nature of most Politians and the almost documentary style that lets the events unfold as if you were a fly on the wall.

According to reports in showbiz newspaper Variety, the pair will star in Iannucci's directorial debut, In The Loop, a biting political satire on US-UK relations. The film will centre on the efforts of an American general (Gandolfini) and a British politico (Tom Hollander of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest) to prevent the US... Read more
