Having been on the inside of politics in the UK, its astounding how close this comes to the reality. This truly is the British answer to The West Wing. The only great travesty is that there have only been 6 episodes plus a couple of specials ever made.
I can only recommend this for those with a strong stomach for verbal abuse as it is truly and assault on the ears of endless swearing. Its in a similar style to The Office but altogether darker, more twisted and youll cringe at all the characters!
The Malcolm Tucker character (played brilliantly by Capaldi) is a tour de force in the Alistair Campbell type role. Theres a deep cynicism and rawness at the heart of politics and The Thick of It portrays this superbly.
Dont rent it if you liked Yes, Minister :)- Was this review helpful to you?

(31)Its OK
By Exitpursuedbyabear (19 reviews) , 18 Jan 2013Not quite sure what I was expecting, but this wasnt it. It took me a long while to get used to the nausea-inducing camera work which became quite irritating after a while. There were a couple of laugh out loud moments but I rented the first disc only and am not sure I would rent the second. What kept me going in the end was laughing at the obviously plastic plants dotted around so conspicuously and you may want to play 'Spot the vase of irises and roses' that seems to move around the entire building and appears on practically every desk, mantelpiece and windowsill at some point over the three episodes. Obviously the set decorating department was short of money!- Was this review helpful to you?

By elizabeth-jones (2 reviews) from Maidenhead , 22 Sep 2012Just superb!
Yes there's a lot of swearing but that's fairly true to life in stressful workplaces. So clever, so brilliantly written. I absolutely recommend.- Was this review helpful to you?

Awesome 5 stars
By MikeyyP (4 reviews) , 12 Apr 2012Funniest thing I've seen in a long while! Peter Capaldi and Chris Addison are brilliant and just bounce off eachother. Bare in mind, if you're not one for overly sweary programmes, this isn't for you- Was this review helpful to you?

Production quality woeful.
By Netchik (1 review) from Ashford , 11 Nov 2011In terms of content and cast, this is clearly a 5 star production, however the camera work is enough to turn me off watching any further episodes. The jerking back and forward is unsettling and to be frank gave me a headache. Such a pity, because I found this show captivating from the start.- Was this review helpful to you?

flippin' brilliant
By a customer , 15 Oct 2011The funniest thing that has been on TV since, well, just 'ever'. If you haven't seen it and you don't mind a bit of bad language you need to see this. Also the film 'In the Loop' which is based on the same characters is as good if not better.- Was this review helpful to you?
