    [Highly rated reviewer]

Richard williams, the guy who did all the pink panther cartoons at the begining and end of those movies spent years doing this as a hobby, even going out of the way to track down and record the actors voices he wanted, in the case of vincent price persuading him to do it when he came over to the u. k. to film the classic theatre of blood in 1973.

I have to say I found this a delightful surprise, like the arabian nights but different from the usual the cartoon is quite surreal at times with the backgrounds forming escher optical illusions which add to the appeal and keep you watching.

poes character speaks in a type of rhyme where the cobbler keeps wisecracking very dry and wry one-liners.

it also contains songs which i wasn't expecting but they're done well and the brigards song is very enjoyable. there's a host of guest voices-i recognised windsor davies but kenneth williams is credited and i didn't recognise him anywhere.

the film is just over an hour long and doesn't outstay it's welcome moving along quite fast. there's also a nice end gag where the thief nicks the 'The end' sign. Worth checking out, a pleasant surprise which was better than I was expecting.
